Judging Criteria and Process

Entry Criteria

The aim of the Luxury Packaging Awards is to celebrate the very best design and innovation in the luxury packaging market in the last year.

Entry criteria which must be met in order to qualify for entry:

- Packs must be for products which launched in retail on or after 1 March 2014;
- Packs must be for luxury/prestige products;
- Packaging suppliers’ own promotional work is not eligible;
- There is no geographical restriction on where a piece of packaging is made, designed, developed or sold;
- There is no restriction on the materials used for any specific pack.

Entries that do not meet the criteria will be removed from judging and will forfeit the entry fee.

What the judges are looking for

Overall, judges will be looking for evidence of great design, consumer appeal and a sense of luxury in the packs under review and will be asked to consider the following five aspects:

- Quality and innovation in graphics, decoration, shape and structure;
- Functionality;
- Shelf stand-out;
- How the pack adds value to the brand;
- Luxury feel.

Each judge will score each of these aspects for each pack and will be asked to submit comments on them. Comments will be collated and made available to all entrants to the Awards after 16 September.

What to include

For categories A-J, all entries must include:
- A 300-500 word submission explaining the background and development of the pack; how it met the brief; and explaining how the pack performs against each of the five criteria laid out above.
- Unless otherwise stated, judges will consider both primary and secondary packs.
- High-resolution photographs should be submitted of the pack as well as images, where appropriate, of any previous version of the pack.
- The date of global launch in retail should be stated in the entry.
- A full or empty sample of the pack should be submitted with the entry.
- Supporting material such as testimonials may also be submitted.
For categories K and L, submissions should include:
- Three sample packs launched in the year under review, each with a 200-word summary of the brief for that specific pack and the creative approach to the project.
- A cover submission of 500 words should be submitted, explaining why the team or company entering should be considered for the Award. This should cover aspects such as its overall approach to packaging projects; evidence of how the team, company or agency adds value to its clients or stakeholders; how it demonstrates creativity, innovation and most of all brings luxury to the products it works on.

At least one example of the pack must be submitted (unless otherwise stated) for the judging day. If this needs to be returned, it is the responsible of the entrant to organise this.
